The Auburn soccer team will kick off the 2008 season and head coach Karen Hoppa's 10th year at the helm of the program on Friday night at 7pm CT against Grambling at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Auburn is coming off of its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last seven seasons and returns nine starters from that squad, including preseason All-SEC selection junior forward Caitlin King and all-America candidate senior goalkeeper Allison Whitworth.

Auburn went 10-8-2 last year and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. King led Auburn with 23 points as she scored five goals and tied the Auburn single-season record for assists in a year with 13. Whitworth had another outstanding season between the pipes as she also tied a school record, recording 102 saves for the second straight season.

Other key returnees for Auburn include senior defender Jenn Johnson and senior forward Kara Kasten. Johnson has played in all 61 matches of her Auburn career while Kasten enters the season with 25 career points.

After Friday's tilt with Grambling, Auburn will play host to UAB at 7pm on Sunday. All regular-season matches at the Auburn Soccer Complex are free admission.

Fans in the Auburn-Opelika area can listen to the broadcasts on WZMG 910 AM. Both matches will also be video and audio streamed on the official Auburn website,
