The Auburn soccer team kicks off the season in on Sunday, August 23rd at Samford at 6pm. In the days leading up to the season-opener, will count backwards from 10, pointing out significant facts about the number of days left until the opener.

6 - SEC Western Division Titles

Auburn has won or shared a portion of six SEC Western Division titles since Karen Hoppa's arrival at Auburn. The team has claimed four outright division titles (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006) and shared two others (2001 & 2008).

Auburn's first divisional crown was almost a worst-to-first story as Auburn was just 3-6-0 in SEC play in 2000, finishing fifth (out of six) in the SEC West. The program then went 5-4-0 in 2001 to share the West crown with Mississippi State, the first-ever divisional title for the Auburn program.

Once it had tasted the success of a divisional title, Auburn has become the elite program in the SEC West. Since the start of the 2001 season, Hoppa has guided the Tigers to an astounding 30-6-4 (.800) mark against Western Division teams.

Hoppa's team followed up the 2001 title by winning an outright West and overall title in 2002, finishing 6-1-2 in conference play, just ahead of Tennessee (6-2-1) in the overall race and Ole Miss (5-3-1) in the West race.

A title in 2003 followed, with ties in matches against South Carolina and Kentucky keeping Auburn (6-1-2) just a single win behind Tennessee (7-1-1) for the overall crown.

2004 saw Auburn run off a 9-0-2 record against SEC foes, which included wins over No. 4 Florida, the highest-ranked opponent Auburn has ever beaten, and No. 8 Tennessee. Once again the Tigers were just shy of an outright crown as Tennessee amassed a 10-1-0 record, besting Auburn by a single point in the standings.

After sliding down to second in the West in 2005, Auburn reclaimed the West title in 2006 with a 5-3-3 mark. Auburn then claimed a sixth SEC West title last season, going 7-3-1 to tie LSU for the crown.
