AUBURN, Ala. -
Fresh off of a trip to Orange Beach for a week of preseason work, the Auburn soccer team will play an exhibition match at Kennesaw State on Saturday night, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m. CT at the KSU Soccer Complex.
"We are excited to get on the field and compete against a quality Kennesaw State club," AU Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "We have had some good preseason practices but it will be good to get this team in a game situation to test ourselves as we continue to get the freshman into the mix with the season getting underway next weekend."
Coming off of an 8-12-1 season that saw the Tigers' run of four straight SEC West titles and four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths come to an end in 2005, the Tigers will have to mesh 12 freshmen with 13 returning players. Leading the returnees are seniors Ronda Brooks, Amanda Garcia, Jac Schwarz, Kristin Stewart and Jenny Zarzour while the incoming class was ranked 17th in the nation by SoccerBuzz.
Kennesaw State finished 13-4-1 last season and have already been picked as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The KSU Soccer Complex is situated at the main entrance of campus, at the intersection of Chastain Road and Kennesaw State University Drive.
Auburn opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 25, at the Auburn Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. against perennial Big XII title contender Texas.
