Soccer Plays At Memphis Saturday In Preseason Exhibition
Aug. 12, 2011
After beginning preseason practice on Wednesday, Aug. 3, the Auburn soccer team will for the first time this year see someone other than the familiar faces of its teammates as the club will play an exhibition match at Memphis on Saturday at 5pm at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. "We are very excited about the progress the team has made ten days into preseason," Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "We are anxious to watch our team compete against an outside opponent as talented as Memphis." The exhibition match pits a pair of NCAA Tournament regulars against one another as Auburn has played in five straight NCAA Tournaments while Memphis has played in fourth straight. While neither team is ranked in the NSCAA pre-season poll, both teams are in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 64 rankings, which projects the postseason tournament qualifiers. Auburn opens up the season on Friday, Aug. 19, at the Auburn Soccer Complex when it plays host to No. 18 Wake Forest at 7pm. It is the first of five consecutive home matches for Auburn to start the 2011 season.
