AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn soccer team took the field for the first time in preparation for the 2006 fall season on Tuesday morning as the Tigers began practicing with their first of two practices on the Plains before heading to Gulf Shores for more intense practices over the next week.

"I was really excited to get back on the field this morning," AU Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "The kids looked good. I could tell that they spent some time with the ball this summer. Their technique was very good and the newcomers are fitting in well right from the start."

The Tigers started the morning with the annual fitness test and then worked on some four-on-four drills and other technique work. The squad was then set to return to the field at 6 p.m. tonight for a full 11-on-11 scrimmage.

Auburn will play an exhibition match against Kennesaw State on Saturday, Aug. 19, before opening the season at the Auburn Soccer Complex against Texas at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25.
