The Auburn soccer team started preparations for a defense of its 2010 SEC Western Division Championship on Wednesday, going through a fitness test at 6am and then taking the field for team practice at the Auburn Soccer Complex 7pm.

Auburn returns a pair of First Team All-SEC performers in senior midfielder Katy Frierson and senior defender Julie King. It also returns four of its top five scorers from last year as junior forward Mary Coffed and junior midfielder Ana Cate joined Frierson and King in scoring 57 percent of the team's 109 points from last season.

Last year the team went 11-8-2, 5-4-2 SEC and was selected to a fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament. Frierson, a Hermann Trophy semifinalist, was a big part of that, scoring a team-best eight goals, four of which were game-winners, and assisting on 12 others.

Auburn will play an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Memphis at 5pm CT before opening the season on Friday, Aug. 19, at home against Wake Forest at 7pm.
