Auburn Head Coach Karen Hoppa has had plenty of chances to game-plan with First Team All-SEC midfielder Katy Frierson during Frierson's first two years at Auburn. On Wednesday, she is game-planning against her as Hoppa and the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team will face Frierson and the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. at 7pm PT.
Frierson is one of 26 players at the U-20 training camp, trying to earn a spot on the final roster for the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany, while Hoppa is an assistant coach for the U-18s, which recently played together at the La Manga Tournament in Spain in early March, defeating the U-19 squads of Germany and Sweden but losing to Norway.
The U-20's will have one more domestic training camp in May, followed by a trip to Germany in June before the 21-player roster is selected for the Women's World Cup, which runs from July 13-Aug. 1. Frierson is one of 11 midfielders at the U-20 camp and one of just two SEC players in camp.
