Soccer Picks Up 4-1 Exhibition Win Over Silverbacks

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn soccer team picked up a 4-1 exhibition win on Saturday morning over the Atlanta Silverbacks of the W-League. Ashley Marks scored two goals and Katy Frierson had two assists as Auburn picked up its second exhibition win of the spring season.

Frierson assisted on a pair of first-half goals, serving a corner kick in the 10th minute that Lizzie Hamersly headed in for a quick 1-0 lead. Caitlin King scored 25 minutes later as Frierson served a ball from midfield over the top to King, who went 1v1 with the defender before finishing in the left corner from 10 yards out.

Marks scored the first of her two goals in the 52nd minute as Julie King served a ball from the left flank that Marks was able to two-touch to the back post from 10 yards out for the three goal lead. Marks capped the Auburn scoring in the 68th minute when she finished from inside the six during a scramble.

The Silverbacks avoided the shutout with a goal in the 79th minute off of a set play.

Auburn will close out its exhibition season this weekend in Orange Beach, playing three matches in two days. Auburn will face SEC foe LSU on Saturday at 7pm at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex before playing two on Sunday, April 19, the first against Columbus State at 12:30pm followed by a 2:30pm match against South Alabama.
