Auburn Head Soccer Coach Karen Hoppa has been selected by Dave Chesler to be the goalkeeper coach for the US Soccer U18 Women's National Team training camp from April 4-11 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Hoppa has a wealth of experience with the US National Teams, last coaching on the 2004 U17 Team. The US National Youth Goalkeeper Coordinator from 2001-04, she has also coached the U19 team from 2001-03, helping the team to a 2002 World Cup Championship, the U18 National Team in 2000 and the U16 National Team from 1999-00.
"Just like the players, as a coach, any time you are asked to represent the United States, it is a great honor," Hoppa said of her appointment. "I am very excited to be part of a US Soccer event and to work with the top U18 players in the country."
The training camp begins on the afternoon of Saturday, April 4 and will include three exhibition matches before concluding on Saturday morning, April 11.
Hoppa, who recently signed a five-year contract extension that keeps her at Auburn through the 2013 school year, begins her 11th year as the head coach at Auburn this fall. In 10 seasons she has guided Auburn to six SEC West titles, the 2002 SEC title and seven NCAA Tournament appearances, compiling a 115-76-16 (.594) record along the way, making her the winningest coach in the SEC West over the last 10 years.
