Auburn Soccer to Meet up with Atlanta Beat in Exhibition Matchup

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. – The Auburn women’s soccer team will go on the road Saturday, March 15 to take on the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA in an exhibition game to be played at McCurry Park South in Fayetteville, Ga. at 5 p.m. CDT.

“We are really excited about the opportunity to play a professional team,” head coach Karen Hoppa said. “The Beat has traditionally been one of the best teams in the WUSA, so this will be a great experience for us. The game will be a good challenge in that we will play against some of the world’s elite players.”

The Tigers, which won the Southeastern Conference regular season title in 2002 with a record of 15-5-2, will not begin its regular season until August, but is currently playing an exhibition schedule in its’ spring season.
      
Auburn returns every player, but two, from that 2002 SEC Championship team, including SEC Player of the Year Sarah Steinmann.

Last season, the Atlanta Beat finished its season fourth in the league with a record of 21-11-9, led offensively by Charmaine Hooper, who scored 11 goals and added three assists in 2002.
