The Auburn Soccer team traveled to Samford University to play SEC rival Ole Miss this past weekend. Ole Miss always proves to be a formidable opponent and this game was no exception as the two teams played to a scoreless draw.
Auburn started the stronger of the two sides establishing a good rhythm early on. In the 15th minute Alex Massey narrowly missed the goal with a left-footed shot after finding herself behind the back line following a great buildup by Auburn. This close call rallied Ole Miss, which answered back with some good possession of its own culminating in it creating the best chance of the half, just missing from close range. With the score at 0-0 at half both teams knew that the second half would be another tight affair.
Ole Miss enjoyed the majority of possession at the start of the second half hitting the woodwork early on from a shot just outside the area. The midfield battle continued with tackles and headers being won from both sides. Both teams had missed opportunities on breakaways with good defensive work by defenders on both sides denying the breakthrough. Kala Faulkner narrowly missed from close range after making a 60 yard run to get on the end of a cross from Alex Massey which was the best and final opportunity of the game.
Auburn's last spring game ended with a 0-0 tie to maintain their unbeaten run for this part of the season. This momentum will be something the players and staff will look to build on when they return for pre-season training.
