Soccer Splits Final Two Exhibition Matches
April 12, 2011
The Auburn soccer team wrapped up its spring exhibition season over the weekend, defeating Kennesaw State, 2-0, and falling to Columbus State, 1-0, on Saturday at KSU Stadium. Playing two 30 minute halves in both matches, Auburn and Columbus State were scoreless through the first period before CSU broke through with a goal with 11:37 left in the match. Columbus State gathered the ball in the midfield and had a three-on-two counter attack, slotting the ball to the lower corner past Auburn goalkeeper Caitlin Torie for the only goal of the match. In the second match of the doubleheader, which also saw the two teams play a scoreless first half, Bianca Sierra got Auburn on the board when she headed in a Katy Frierson corner kick from the back post with 17:26 left. Just six minutes later, Frierson found Jessica Wolfe making a run across the box. Frierson's service was headed by Wolfe to the back post and Kim Spence was there to finish the rebound, putting the finishing touches on the 2-0 win. With the spring exhibition season over, Auburn will host an alumni game on Friday, April 15, at 7pm at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
