For Auburn's second spring match, it welcomed the defending NCAA Division II University of West Florida Argonauts to the Auburn Soccer Complex on Saturday, March 23. A competitive game from the beginning, both teams battled hard with Auburn coming out on top with a 4-0 victory.
Within the first 15 minutes in the game Auburn took the lead on an Alexa Allen goal off a penetrating pass over the top from redshirt-sophomore Jordan Miller. Despite chances for both teams the score remained 1-0 entering the half.
The second half started out with a flurry as Auburn looked to capitalize on its lead with a goal from freshman Alex Massey only four minutes in. A great early service from Allen found Massey's slashing run, finishing under pressure to score her first goal for Auburn.
In the 70th minute Allen stuck again, this time after a stellar defensive play by Kim Spence, who intercepted an Argonaut pass to free Allen to go to goal. Allen showed personality to beat her player and finish on a shot from 30 yards out into the top corner for her second goal of the game.
Auburn rounded out the scoring with a great team effort culminating in a Logan Beal goal. Natalie Donaldson started the attack with a cross into the six which was flicked on by Massey to Beal, who showed great athleticism to finish with a lunging first time volley.
Auburn's second road game of the spring is Thursday at 6pm vs. Georgia at Greater Atlanta Christian.
