NORCROSS, Ga. -
The Auburn soccer team picked up another spring exhibition win on Thursday, March 8, as it defeated Georgia, 2-0, at the Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, Ga. Chelsea Gandy-Cromer scored both goals for Auburn, which is 2-0 in the spring season.
Gandy-Cromer, a GAC graduate, opened the scoring in the 62nd minute after a long stoppage for injury. Auburn goalkeeper Amy Howard restarted play with a free kick to Mary Coffed, who advanced the ball to the midfied, turned and played a ball in behind the Georgia backline for Gandy-Cromer. The Georgia goalkeeper came off her line to clear five yards outside of the box but her clear went right into Gandy-Cromer and ricocheted straight into the open net.
The second goal came just 11 minutes later when Kim Spence controlled possession and cleared it to the center circle where Gandy-Cromer gained possession. She dribbled wide away from a defender and into the penalty area before taking it back along the top of the 18. She then laid it off to Jessica Rightmer 10 yards outside the 18, who then played it back to Gandy-Cromer for a shot to the far post, upper 90 for the goal.
Auburn returns to action on March 24 at 1pm when it plays host to Columbus State.
