AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn gymnastics will begin the 2014 season in the same spot it ended the 2013 season – 13th overall. The Tigers are ranked No. 13 in the 2014 National Coaches Poll released last Thursday.
“Being ranked 13th in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll is encouraging,” Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Graba said. “To know that your fellow coaches think your program is one of the top 13 in the country is very rewarding. I think it’s a vote of confidence moving forward. Hopefully, we can exceed expectations because the top 12 in the end are the ones that qualify out of the regional meets and are at the NCAA National Championship meet in Birmingham.”
Auburn wrapped the 2013 in 13th place after finishing third at the NCAA Gainesville Regional with a program regional record score of 196.700.
The Tigers are one of seven Southeastern Conference teams ranked in the top 25, led by top-ranked Florida and No. 2 Alabama. Both the Gators and Crimson Tide will visit Auburn Arena in 2014. Other ranked Auburn opponents include LSU (5th), Georgia (8th), Arkansas (11th) and Kentucky (21st).
Auburn opens the 2014 season against Texas Woman’s University on January 10 at 7 p.m. in Auburn Arena. For the latest on Auburn gymnastics, follow @AUGymnastics on Twitter.
