AUBURN AWARDED 2015 NCAA GYMNASITCS REGIONAL MEET

Dec. 12, 2013

AUBURN, Ala. – The NCAA has awarded a 2015 NCAA Gymnastics Regional meet to Auburn. The meet will be held in Auburn Arena and will be the first regional meet in Auburn since 2012.

“I’m excited to have the NCAA Regional Meet back here in Auburn,” Auburn head coach Jeff Graba. “It is an honor to be chosen to host these meets. It means that we have proven that we can run a quality event here and that fans will show up and support it. In addition, I think it is very beneficial to our team to host a regional meet. We will have a less strenuous travel schedule and will be in front of our own fans on one of the biggest meets of the year. I think it’s a huge win for our program as well as our fans.”

The Tigers finished fourth in the 2012 event as the host team while posting a score that was at the time the second-best regional score in program history. That mark was later bested in 2013.

“We really want to thank everyone who put in a bid,” said Mark Lewis, NCAA executive vice president of championships and alliances. “The competitiveness of the bids made it extremely difficult for the sport committees to select sites as there just weren’t spots for all of the great bids we received. Ultimately the sites that were selected will provide our student-athletes, coaches and fans the best experience possible.”

Auburn has previously hosted regional meets in 1991 and 2012. The Tigers hosted the 2006 NCAA Championship meet in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The regional in 2015 will mark the second NCAA Regional meet in Auburn Arena following the 2012 event.
