AUBURN - The Auburn Gymnastics program will host its annual Vampires vs. Werewolves Intrasquad meet on Friday afternoon at the McWhorter Center.

The meet is scheduled to being at 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is free.

The intrasquad meet is a good opportunity for the team to get some early experience in preparing themselves for competition. The Auburn team will be split into two teams - Werewolves and Vampires for the purpose of the meet.

"Our goal is to get the athletes used to a competitive atmosphere," head coach Jeff Graba said. "We have been practicing for a while now and we need to get the team ready to compete. This means that we will have to post lineups on each event and will give us a chance to evaluate how each person does in their role for this meet. We view this as our first step towards meet preparation for the team."

With only two months left before the start of the 2012 season, the coaching staff is pleased with how practice has gone thus far, but is anxious to see the team in a competitive venue.

"The staff is very pleased with the progress of the team up to this point," Graba said. "We couldn't be happier. However, with a young team we feel that it will be important to see how people react in a competitive environment and this is our first opportunity to really see the team in action. I am really excited to see the beginnings of what we are made of this year."

With year one under Graba behind them, the Auburn gymnastics team is looking forward to 2012 and a chance to take the next step in preparations for the new year.

"Overall, this team has done a great job preparing itself for the competition season," Graba said. "We are relatively healthy and in good shape and are definitely going to be throwing a bigger variety of skills this year. The annual `Vampires vs. Werewolves Intrasquad' gives us the perfect opportunity to gauge our progress up to this point."

The McWhorter Center for Women's Athletics officially opened its doors in January of 2001. The 44,000 square foot building is home to the Auburn gymnastics team and the softball team.
