Auburn, Ala. - On Oct. 13, the Auburn Gymnastics team will be volunteering at Lee Scott Academy for the Auburn Gymnastics Academy Kickoff Classic. The competition is for compulsory gymnasts, ages 6-12, many of whom are members of the Tigers Big Sis/Little Sis program.

"This is a unique experience for both the Auburn gymnasts and the younger girls," said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson, "The younger girls are in awe of the Auburn Gymnasts who have come to watch them compete, and our gymnasts get a chance to impact the lives of athletes who are where they once were."

The Tigers will be involved in every facet of the event including set up, flashing scores and presenting awards at the conclusion of the competition.

"As a coach it is rewarding to watch your athletes become such huge role models to these younger athletes," Thompson said. "It is also great for our gymnasts to realize how their presence at these events can change and shape the lives of these children."

This weekend's event follows an Oct. 4 outing for the team where they volunteered at the Auburn Early Education Center to help with the school's annual Family Fun Night. The Tigers spent their time digging in the sand for buried treasure, playing miniature golf and fishing for ducks with the center's children.

"It is always so nice to get our gymnasts out in the community to meet the families who support them throughout their collegiate careers," Thompson said.
