Gymnastics Posts Top Five Attendance in 2012 Up from 7th to 5th in 2012.

AUBURN – No. 15 Auburn gymnastics finished the 2012 season ranked fifth nationally in average attendance with an average of 4,520 fans attending five regular season home meets.

“What I’m really excited about is that this number involved the students and the rest of the Auburn family,” Auburn coach Jeff Graba said. “We upped the total in both categories. We had great turn outs by the students, but during the two spring break meets it was our non-student fans that were there to support us. I’m really glad that we are reaching out to the whole community. We are growing the program not only in the gym, but we are also growing the fan base.

“I was told by a lot of students and many of the fans that I had the pleasure of speaking with during the season, that our meets are becoming the thing to do in Auburn on Friday nights. That’s really what we want to become. The meets are exciting and they are a lot of fun. We have a competitive team and we are bringing in some of the top teams in the country. All of that together shows why it has become so popular in Auburn.”

The mark ranks Auburn fourth in the SEC and behind only Utah, Alabama, Georgia and Florida nationally. The figure is an increase from an average of 3,583 fans one year ago – the seventh-best total nationally in 2011.

The Tigers established a new Auburn Arena attendance record with 7.299 fans in the stands for the meet with Alabama on January 27. The program was featured in the 2012 NCAA Gymnastics Championships program for its strong attendance this season.

Auburn finished the season with a national rank of 15th, its highest final ranking since 2003. The Tigers recorded the second-highest regional score in program history with a 196.100, the 12th-best regional score in the country.
