AUBURN - The Auburn gymnastics team, coming off the 2011 season, ranked seventh-nationally in average attendance per home meet, GymInfo has announced. The Tigers were fourth in the Southeastern Conference for average attendance.
"I believe we are consistently in the top 7 or 8 in attendance, and I think that shows how supportive our community and students are of gymnastics here in Auburn," head coach Jeff Graba said.
Auburn averaged 3,583 fans per home meet, with the highest attendance of 4,190 coming against LSU on Jan. 14. Utah held the top spot with the highest national attendance averaging 13,501 fans. Alabama was second averaging 12,730 fans, while Georgia averaged 9,262 fans. Florida was next with 6,127 fans followed by Oregon State with 4,275 fans. UCLA finished just ahead of Auburn with 3,586 fans per meet.
The Tigers also finished 19th in the final GymInfo poll for the season, with an average score of 194.950 and a team high of 195.925. Auburn faced one of the toughest schedules in the country, facing off against No. 1 Alabama, No. 7 Florida, No. 9 Georgia, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 20 LSU, No. 24 Iowa State and No. 25 Kentucky. The Tigers also added No. 11 Illinois and No. 14 Penn State to the list at the Tuscaloosa Regional.
Auburn finished the season ranked No.4 in the NCAA Central Region, behind Alabama, Ohio State and LSU.
