AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn gymnasts Caitlin Atkinson and MJ Rott have both been named regular season All-Americans by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NAGC/W) for their performances during the 2014 regular season.
“I think the fact that Caitlin and MJ are both being recognized as a couple of the very best gymnasts in the country speaks volumes about our program and the direction it’s heading now,” Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. “It’s just a tremendous honor for them as well as for our program.”
Atkinson was named a second team All-American in the all-around competition. The sophomore from Houston, Texas ranks 10th nationally with an RQS of 39.500. She has averaged 39.370 during the 2014 season and equaled her career best with a 39.550 in a win over Missouri on March 7.
Rott has been dynamite for Auburn on vault since the opening meet of the season. The Minnesota native scored 9.85 on vault in her first career meet, then proceeded to score 9.9 or higher in six of the next seven meets.
Rott, who ranks 16th nationally on vault with an RQS of 9.915, equaled the Auburn program record with a 9.975 on the road at LSU on January 22.
The 2014 season mark the second year that the NAGC/W has recognized regular season All-Americans. The NCAA recognizes All-Americans based on the gymnast’s performance at the NCAA Gymnastics Championship.
Atkinson was named a 2013 All-American by the NCAA on vault.
