The No. 12 Auburn gymnastics team will host No. 25 Illinois on Friday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m., CT, in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
"They are close enough to us that it is going to be an exciting competition," said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. "We just need to go out there and take care of business and do what we are capable of doing."
The series between the Tigers and the Illini is tied at four wins each. The last time the Tigers met Illinois in Beard-Eaves was in 2004, when Auburn topped the Illini 196.350-194,825. Auburn met with Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 2007 and was defeated 195.975-195.775.
As a team, the Tigers are ranked in the top 25 on three events. With a 49.400 beam performance at Arkansas, the Tigers jumped 11 spots to No. 6. Auburn moved up two spots to No. 10 on vault. The Tigers moved up one spot from last week's ranking to No. 15 on floor exercise.
Additionally, Auburn's Lindsey Puckett, Julie Dwyer and Krissy Voss are all ranked in the top 25 of the all-around. Puckett leads the Tigers at No. 8, followed by Dwyer at No. 13 and Voss at No. 22.
Illinois is ranked in the top 25 on two events, balance beam (24) and uneven bars (25). Additionally, Illinois' Allison Buckley is ranked No. 20 in the all-around with an average score of 38.886. Buckely is tied for No. 18 on floor exercise.
Friday is Girl's Night Out in Beard-Eaves. All girl scouts wearing a uniform or girl scout organization t-shirt will be admitted free of charge. Friday Auburn will be honoring National Women in Sports Day at Beard-Eaves. Auburn female athletes from volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and soccer will be conducting free mini-clinics followed by autograph sessions.
Admission for Friday's meet is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Admission is free for Auburn students with a valid student ID.
