BIRMINGHAM - Auburn freshman Bri Guy was named the SEC's Freshman of the Week after her performance against Florida the SEC office announced on Tuesday.
"It's great recognition for Bri," Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. "Everyone around the conference is noticing that she is doing a great job. It also means that she is solidifying into her role on this team. Bri had a good meet. She had an exceptional bars set and a predictable other three events - stuff that she does all the time. That was the Bri that we are going to get on many nights."
Guy put on one of the top individual performances in Auburn gymnastics history on Friday. The freshman totaled 39.550 in the all-around competition - the third-best score in program history and the highest total for an Auburn gymnast since 2008.
The Catonsville, Maryland native posted season high totals on bars, vault and beam in the meet with No. 2 Florida. Her historic night helped Auburn to a season-high score of 196.875, the second-highest mark in school history.
Guy's career highs on bars, vault, and beam helped Auburn its highest team score since 2004. In Friday's meet, Guy posted the highest score on floor (9.9) and tied for the highest score on beam (9.950).
Guy is the first Auburn gymnast to receive an SEC weekly award since Allyson Sandusky in 2010, and the first to be named Freshman of the Week since Sandusky in 2009.
