AUBURN - The No. 22 Auburn gymnastics team will take on No. 1 Florida Friday at 6 p.m. CT in Gainesville, Fla., at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The meet marks the sixth consecutive and final SEC opponent on the Tigers' regular season schedule.
Auburn (2-4, 2-3 SEC) is looking to utilize the experience it gained in the first half of the season to finish strong in the second half.
"Our first six meets of the season have been against some pretty hard competition," Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. "We haven't been at full strength. Now it's about time that we get to full strength and these gymnasts get to do the normal gymnastics that we are used to."
This is the 61st meeting between the two schools, with Florida (7-0, 4-0 SEC) leading the series 48-12. In the last meeting, the Gators defeated the Tigers at the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional on April 10, 2010.
The Tigers worked on solidifying their routines during practice this week a nd look to carry that into competition Friday night.
"We still feel like we weren't sharp last week so we tried to sharpen up a little bit," Graba said. "We felt like bars did a really good job. Vault and floor, we need to work on our landings a little, so we did that this week. We hit beam hard this week, and that is typical for us. This week was about refining the little things. It was a very similar structure with a little bit different expectations"
