Auburn, Ala. -
The No. 16 Auburn gymnastics team (4-4, 0-4 SEC) will host the No. 1 Georgia Gym Dogs (5-1, 3-0 SEC) on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Friday is All-Auburn, All-Orange at the Coliseum.
"This weekend we start on vault against Georgia," said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. "Like I said against Alabama and Florida, we need to do well on the first two events and have it close after two so that we have a chance there at the end and make them feel that pressure. No Georgia team wants to be the first team to lose to Auburn. If there is some doubt in their mind, that is going to give us a chance."
The Tigers take on the number one team in the country for the second time this season. Auburn faced Florida on Jan. 25, when they were ranked at number one.
Auburn meets with Georgia coming off of a second place finish at a tri-meet with SEC rival LSU and West Virginia. The Tigers scored a season high 49.400 on beam, which is the second highest beam score in school history. Senior Julie Dwyer placed first on beam with a team season high 9.950. Junior Lindsey Puckett placed second scoring 9.900. Dwyer also placed second in the all around scoring a season high 39.450.
"They did a great job last weekend," Thompson said. "The last three events were amazing; we just need to get off to a better start."
Gates will open for the meet at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Admission is free for Auburn students with a valid student ID.
Friday is "Kids Club" and "Club Team" Night. One adult can gain free admission for one Kids Club card. Club teams that have pre-registered also receive free admission.
