COLUMBIA, Mo. – Seventeenth-ranked Auburn gymnastics makes its first trip to Columbia, Mo. this weekend to face new Southeastern Conference member Missouri on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT in the Hearnes Center.
“We are all really looking forward to competing at Missouri for the first time in quite a while,” Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Graba said. “It is not only going to be fun, but it will also be a challenge. We have found out that this meet will be in conjunction with a wrestling match. So it should be a pretty crazy atmosphere. This will mean that our team needs to rise to the challenge of focusing and concentrating yet again on the road. I think this creates a unique opportunity for our young team to grow even more.”
The meet will run concurrently with a Missouri men’s wrestling meet for the program’s annual “
Beauty and the Beast Night.”
For Auburn, Friday marks the third-straight meet on the road. The Tigers have had success in the two previous road trips, posting consecutive high scores for the season. Most recently, Auburn scored 196.025 at Florida – the top road score in Graba’s three-year tenure.
“The road has been good for our team, but I think I speak for all of us when I say that we will also be glad to finish up this grueling three meet stretch,” Graba said. “Our team needs some time to heal up at home and also is looking forward to getting in front of our fans again when we meet Arkansas in a week. However, we need to focus and do another good job on the road before we can get wrapped up in coming home.”
