Auburn Gymnastics Moves up to No. 9 in Latest GymInfo Collegiate Poll

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn gymnastics team has moved up five spots in the Jan.10 edition of the latest GymInfo poll. Auburn ranks ninth with a score of 195.200 after previously holding down the No. 14 spot. Friday's opponent, Oklahoma, which is fresh off an upset of Florida, has moved to No. 2 in the poll with a team score of 196.250. The Sooners were previously ranked ninth. Sophomore Kylie Shields highlights the individual rankings, as she is ranked 17th in the country in the all-around competition with a 39.050 average. Shields and teammate, junior Rachel Inniss, are also tied for 20th in the nation on beam with an average score of 9.825. In event-by-event rankings, the Tigers rank No. 5 in beam (48.925), seventh in bars (48.925), 14th in vault (48.775) and 18th in the floor exercise (48.575). UCLA leads the team rankings with a 196.600, followed by Oklahoma in the second spot. Alabama comes in at No. 4 after defeating Auburn on Jan. 8 and holds a 195.650 average. Other opponents on the schedule ranked ahead of Auburn are No. 6 Denver with a 195.400, No. 7 Arkansas (195.400) and No. 8 Florida with a 195.275. Georgia closes out the top-10 with a score of 195.150. Auburn returns to action next Friday as the Tigers host second-ranked Oklahoma. The meet will serve as Auburn's annual "Flip for the Cure" night, with the Tigers sporting pink leotards. Additionally, "Flip for the Cure" t-shirts will be on sale for $10 with all proceeds benefitting East Alabama Medical Center. Fans in attendance wearing a "Flip for the Cure" shirt will be admitted free of charge. The meet is slated for a 7 p.m. start from Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
