Jan. 8, 2014

AUBURN – Auburn gymnastics opens the 2014 season on Friday against Texas Woman’s University and when it does, it will face the nation’s second toughest schedule according to the strength of schedule index released by

Auburn is ranked behind only SEC foe Kentucky on the list.

“I’m not at all surprised that we have the second toughest schedule in the country this year,” Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. “Not only does it say we have a really tough road schedule but it also means our fans are in for a phenomenal home schedule. With some of the very best gymnastics in the entire country happening in Auburn Arena it’s a great opportunity for our program to test itself against the very best and for our fans to be able to help us with this challenging season.”

Auburn’s 2013 schedule is tied for second in difficulty with Georgia. Included in the slate are the eighth-ranked Gym Dogs, top ranked Florida, two meets with No. 2 Alabama and a trip to No. 5 LSU.

Additionally, the Tigers face No. 11 Arkansas and No. 21 Kentucky on the road. Auburn will also host Missouri and visit the Air Force Academy.

Tickets for Friday’s opener with TWU are still available. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free schedule magnet and Auburn University faculty and staff who show their ID can receive one free ticket with the purchase of a ticket. There will also be a post-meet autograph session.
