Auburn Head Coach Jeff Thompson
On tonight's meet...
"In a way, I feel bad for them (Georgia) because they're a much better team than they showed on their last event. In a way though, I don't feel bad for them because they did it to us 64 times, most of which, our kids weren't here for. I said earlier this week that only Georgia could beat Georgia, maybe that was true. What we did was outstanding. We came over here and I told you floor was going to be our best event, and floor was our best event. It sealed the win, and I think we had it locked up before Rachel (Inniss) even went. She had a great floor routine, and it's just a really, really special feeling."
On realizing you had won the meet before the final routine...
"I think the kids kind of figured it out. After Krissy Voss went, she came off the floor and I kind of told her 'I think that routine just won the meet for us,' so she got all excited and I think the other kids kind of saw her get excited and I think they started asking her 'Did we win? Did we win?' so they knew. But what a great, great win. Such a huge crowd and everybody stuck around and the cheering was amazing. This is a milestone for us."
On what this win means...
"I think what helped us tonight was that last week we didn't have a good meet. We've been preaching 'process, process,' and the logic of what you do. We've been talking about the percentages of hit routines during the week. That's what we focused on when we came to floor. We said, 'Hey look, let's be logical. You guys hit 97 percent this week, and you know you're going to go out there and do that again tonight.' Earlier in the season, we came over here and stumbled around a little bit, but it really gave them confidence to go out there and do what they know how to do. Maybe 'process' is the magic word, I don't know. I like winning, and we're not result-oriented, but when you get a result like this, it sure does feel good."
On former Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan being in attendance...
"I didn't even think about it until just now. I don't know, that's weird. She never lost, Georgia never lost. She's gone and now she's here watching and she's our consultant. She's commentating for CSS, and using her strategy, we beat her old team. Maybe they ought to pay her more."
Senior Krissy Voss
On tonight's meet...
"I'm really speechless. I'm so proud to be a part of this team because we just rise to the challenge. My teammates totally had my back. I love it."
On knowing Auburn had won the meet...
"I started watching a little bit of their beam routine before my floor routine. In the past, I might have gotten a little nervous, but I took a deep breath, and I knew that I had to rock it out. We knew before Rachel (Inniss) went out there, we had been keeping tabs in our heads. But really, we can't focus on them. There's nothing we can do to affect them. Tonight was just our night. I'm so proud of us."
On a successful night on floor...
"It's huge because we knew floor was going to be our crucial event. Obviously last week it was our crutch event. For us to have it as our strength in this meet just means that everything's working out. Everything we talked about, how we trained, we did it."
Sophomore Justine Foster
On tonight's meet...
"It was great. Especially from coming back from last week and to have our best meet, we can only go forward from here."
On improving so much on floor this week...
"Well first of all, with practice, it builds so much confidence. We did a whole regrouping, so today, it was really awesome."
On knowing Auburn could win the meet...
"We could hear the crowd reacting, so we knew that they had fallen or were having some trouble on beam. When Rachel (Inniss) went after that, we just knew because we had all stuck our landings on floor."
Sophomore Allyson Sandusky
On tonight's meet...
"It's awesome. I don't even have words, it's just so much fun to be out here right now."
On beating Georgia...
"To win against Georgia, it's awesome. We came out here to make a statement to the nation, and I think we did that."
On knowing Auburn had won the meet...
"Well, we just took it one step at a time. Each event was like a different meet for us, so we just went out there and did our best."
