AUBURN - The Auburn women’s golf team signed Clara Baena, head coach Kim Evans announced Friday. Baena, from Spain will join the team for the 2013-14 season.
Baena is ranked 50th in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, which ranks top female amateur golfers in the world on the basis of the average performances in events over a rolling cycle of the past 52 weeks.
“We are excited to have Clara as part of the Auburn Family,” said Evans. “She brings an extensive international resume to our program and is a great person.”
Baena placed first at the Banesto Tour at The National Golf Center, playing as an amateur at a professional event. She was also the runner-up for the US British Junior Girls Championship and has placed in the top 10s of multiple tournaments, including the European Girls Team Championship and the Annika European Invitational. Baena will be the second Spanish player on Auburn’s current roster next season, joining current junior Marta Sanz.
