CHAPEL HILL N.C. - The Auburn women's golf team shot a 292 Sunday at the par 72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course to finish in 8th place at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational.
"We needed to have a round like we had today," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "Candace Schepperle played a great round and everyone else improved a great deal from the first two days. Hopefully we can carry this level of play into next week's UT Mercedes Invitational."
Auburn (313-309-292--914) improved four places on the leaderboard in the final round and finished 21 strokes behind champion Vanderbilt. The Tigers' final round 292 matched efforts from Duke and Wake Forest on Sunday as the lowest team rounds in the tournament.
Candace Schepperle (76-78-70--224) led the Tigers individually, carding a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish tied for 11th place. Abigale Schepperle (78-75-74--227) finished in 25th place while Nicole Hage (79-79-74--232), Jessica Lovell (80-78-74--232) and Margaret Shirley (80-78-74--232) finished tied for 37th place.
