Three former Auburn golfers advance at LPGA Q-School

Patricia Sanz was one of three former Auburn golfers to advance at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament.

Former Auburn golfers Patricia Sanz, Marta Sanz and Diana Fernandez advanced out of the first stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament, which took place last week at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

The top 102 finishers in the field of 284 entrants earned their way to the second stage of qualifying, which will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 4 at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida.

The Sanz sisters finished with identical 72-hole scores to tie for 67th place. Marta Sanz posted rounds of 76-77-71-72=296 (+8) and Patricia Sanz turned in scores of 73-74-72-77=296 (+8).

Fernandez was one stroke behind at 297 (+9), rebounding from an opening-round 81 to finish with 73-72-71 on the final three days to tie for 78th. The cut for the top 100 and ties was 298 (+10).

The top 80 and ties from Stage II will move on to the final stage, which will be held over 90 holes Dec. 3-7 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. The top finishers in that tournament will earn their tour cards for the 2015 LPGA season.
