North Plains, Ore. - Auburn women's golfers Candace Schepperle and Margaret Shirley were eliminated Thursday afternoon in the second round of the U.S. Women's Amateur at the par 71, 6,380-yard Witch Hollow course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

Schepperle fell to Stacy Lewis of The Woodlands, Texas 3 and 1. Schepperle was down early in the match play, but pulled back to all square from holes 7 to 12, but Lewis won holes 13, 14 and 17 to take the match.

Shirley took her match with Alison Whitaker of Australia to extra holes as the duo was all square after 18 holes. Shirley and Whitaker tied the 19th hole and Whitaker took the win on the 20th hole with a birdie on a par three.

Schepperle, an incoming freshman, and Shirley a junior, along with the rest of the Tigers, will begin the fall season Sept. 22-24 at the Fall Preview in Daytona Beach, Fla.
