Schepperle and Shirley Advance Past First Round Of Match Play At U.S. Amateur

North Plains, Ore. - Auburn golfers Candace Schepperle and Margaret Shirley each advanced to the second round of match play after defeating their opponents Wednesday evening at the U.S. Women's Amateur at the par 71, 6,380-yard Witch Hollow course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.

Schepperle defeated Hunter Ross of Manakin Sabot, Va. 2 and 1. With a result of 2 and 1, Schepperle was up two holes with just one hole remaining to play. Shirley defeated Ya-Ni Tseng of Chinese Taipei 3 and 1 late in the day.

Schepperle will now match up with Stacy Lewis of The Woodlands, Texas, and a current player at Arkansas Wednesday at 11:10 a.m. CT. Shirley is set to meet Alison Whitaker of Australia at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in round two of match play.
