Auburn women's golfers Alex Harrell, Marta Sanz and Clara Baena competed well in a pair of tournaments over the weekend as the summer season begins to wind down.
Harrell, a rising junior from Phenix City, tied for medalist honors at the Alabama Women's Stroke Play Championship last week at Canebrake Club in Athens. After rounds of 70 and 72 in the first two rounds, Harrell made up a four-shot deficit in Friday's final round with a 4-under-par 68 to tie Ole Miss junior Alison Hovatter for the 54-hole lead before falling in a three-hole playoff.
Meanwhile, recent graduate Marta Sanz and rising sophomore Clara Baena both earned top-20 finishes at the European Ladies Amateur Championship, which concluded Saturday in Manniva, Estonia. Sanz tied for fifth place after rounds of 71-72-71-69=292 (-5), five shots behind the tournament lead. Baena also had four strong days with rounds of 73-73-71-73=290 (+2), tying for 19th place.
The 2014-15 Auburn women's golf season kicks off Sept. 8-10 at The "Mo" Morial in College Station, Texas.
