Michaela Owen finished second in the Will Claxton Junior at the Auburn University Club last week.

AUBURN, Ala. - Incoming Auburn women's golf freshman Michaela Owen took runner-up honors at the Will Claxton Junior last week at the Auburn University Club.

Owen, a native of Suwanee, Georgia, who signed with the Tigers in April, put together rounds of 74-79-74=227 (+11) to earn a second-place finish at the tournament on what will be her home course for the next four years.

"I cannot wait to be (in Auburn) in the fall," Owen said. "And playing on the course I'll be playing for the next few years was such a great experience. Hopefully it will help me feel more comfortable during qualifying and playing knowing that I played it so much. The course is very challenging and a lot of course management is needed, but having played it for so many days will hopefully help me."

Another incoming freshman, Sophia Schubert, competed in last week's Wyndham Cup, an annual team match play event that pits the top 10 boys and girls from east of the Mississippi River against the top 10 from west of the river. Schubert, a native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was part of the East team. The event ended in a 25-25 tie, allowing the West team to retain the cup.

Schubert went 2-2 on the week and helped the East team to two points with wins in her day one four-ball match and a foursome (alternate shot) match on the second day.

Owen and Schubert will join Kelli Murphy (Elgin, S.C.) as the Tigers' 2014-15 freshman class when the season begins in September.
