Norman, Okla. -
The Golf Coaches Association of American announced the 12-member team for the 2008 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship and included on that list is Auburn freshman Cydney Clanton. The 33rd annual competition will be held July 16-18 at Tokyo Golf Club.
"It is an honor for Cydney to represent the United States in this match," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "We are proud that she will be on the team and feel she earned this honor. Cydney will go to Japan in July and represent Auburn and the United States well."
Team USA leads the all-time series 24-8, and has won the last eight competitions in Japan. Clanton will be the fourth Tiger to represent the United States at this tournament. Missy Tuck (1990), Robin Cook (1998) and Danielle Downey (2000, 2002) were prior players. Cook won the individual title in 1998.
The team - which consists of eight men and four women players - will be coached by Mike Morrow of Kent State and Barry's Jimmy Stobs.
Clanton is ranked No. 13 in the country and recently finished fourth at the NCAA East Regional (70-75-72--217). Named SEC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-SEC, Clanton has five top-five finishes this season and seven in the top 10. She leads the No. 11 Tigers with a 73.45 average.
Clanton and Auburn are set to compete at the NCAA Championship May 20-23 in Albuquerque, N.M. Auburn earned a spot at the championship after finishing fourth at the NCAA East Regional this past weekend in Athens, Ga.
