AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women’s golf team signed, Michaela Owen, head coach Kim Evans announced Thursday. Owen will skip her final year of high school eligibility to join Kelli Murphy and Sophia Schubert, who both signed back in the November, in the signing class.
“We are really excited that Michaela is coming to Auburn. She is a proven player and one of the best juniors in Georgia,” Auburn women’s golf coach Kim Evans said. “We welcome her to the Auburn Family and look forward to her success here.”
Owen holds five school records during her playing career at Lambert High School in Suwanee, Ga., winning the 2013 GHSA AAAAAA State Championship. In 2013, Owen was the individual low medalist at the state tournament for Lambert High School, winning the individual title in a playoff.
In 2012, Owen was named the Player of the Year by her teammates, as she averaged shooting 74 per round that season. On the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour, Owen has won three times in the last year and also finished first at the US Girls Junior Qualifier in Prattville, Ala.
At Lambert High School, Owen is the all-time record holder in low individual match score (34), low individual score at a state championship (71) as well as the record for low team par 3 tournament score and low individual scramble style tournament score. Her stroke average of 74.0 is also a school record.
The Tigers will return to action this weekend as Auburn travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the Southeastern Conference Tournament. The three-day event is being played at the Founders Course at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
