Schepperle And Clanton Complete Play At LPGA's Kraft Nabisco

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Auburn's Candace Schepperle and Cydney Clanton completed play Friday at the LPGA's Kraft Nabisco Championship, missing the cut after tying for 102nd. The Kraft Nabisco Championship is the first major championship of the season and takes place at the par-72, 6,702-yard Mission Hills Country Club Dinah Shore Tournament Course. Schepperle, a Birmingham native, carded the low round among the two Tigers, finishing the day with a 4-over 76 for a tournament-total 11-over 155. Starting on the No. 10 tee, Schepperle struggled off the start with three bogeys in the first five holes, but rebounded to go 2-over for the rest of the round. Clanton, a native of Concord, N.C., carded an 8-over 8- to finish in a tie with Schepperle at 11-over 155. She also struggled off the start, posting two bogeys and a double bogey on three of the first four holes. She went 5-over-par the rest of the round to finish the day with an 80. They were two of just seven amateurs in the field and tied for fifth among the seven. Other amateurs include Southern California's Jennifer Song, Alexis Thompson, Arizona State's Jennifer Johnson, Jessica Korda and Denver's Kimberly Kim. Now in its 38th year of existence, the Kraft Nabisco Championship is one of the LPGA's major championships. It began in 1972 as the Colagte Dinah Shore and became a major in 1983.
