The No. 11 Auburn women's golf team returns to the links this weekend at the Bryan Park National Collegiate in Brown Summit, N.C. The 18-team field will compete on the par-72, 6,319-yard Bryan Park Players Course beginning March 28.
Eight teams competing this weekend were ranked in the top 25 by Golfweek, including No. 1 Duke, No. 5 Florida, No. 11 Auburn, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 14 Wake Forest, No. 17 Tennessee, No. 19 Michigan State and No. 24 Virginia. Auburn is 30-13 this season vs. the field.
Because the Champions Course is undergoing renovations in preparation for the 2010 USGA Men's Publinx Championship, the tournament will be held on the Players Course. That course recently renovated its greens and bunkers and should provide an excellent test for the field.
Last season the Tigers finished seventh (301-315-300--916). Purdue (290-303-294--887) won the event, following by Florida (298-294-302--894) and North Carolina (291-309-297--897). Sandra Gal of Florida and Maria Hernandez of Purdue tied for first in the individual race.
Former Tiger Nicole Hage was the top finisher a year ago as she tied for 16th. Sophomore Candace Schepperle tied for 18th, while senior Margaret Shirley tied for 32nd. Former Tiger Marisa Milligan tied for 65th and senior Abigale Schepperle was 70th.
This will be Auburn's fourth trip to the Bryan National Collegiate. The Tigers best finish came in 2004 when Auburn came in fifth. Auburn has finished seventh the past two trips (2005, 2007).
