AUBURN - The No. 29 Auburn women's golf team will travel to Hilton Head, S.C., this weekend to compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Play begins on Friday in the Tigers' third tournament of the Spring season.
Hosted by South Carolina, the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is a 54-hole tournament played at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. The par 71 course will play at 6,211 yards for the tournament.
"We haven't seen this course so we're excited to play it," said head coach Kim Evans. "It's a very reputable course and it should be a good test."
The field of 15 teams features seven teams currently in the GolfWorld/WGCA top 25 rankings. Auburn will face No. 6 Alabama, No. 8 Arizona State, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 10 Vanderbilt. No. 14 Arkansas, No. 16 Georgia and No. 17 Virginia.
Other schools in the tournament field are Furman, LSU, South Carolina, TCU, Tennessee, UCF and Wake Forest.
In the lineup for the Tigers are junior Marta Sanz, senior Carlie Yadloczky, junior Diana Fernandez, sophomore Nicole Quinn and freshman Jamie Yun. The lineup was decided earlier this week in a qualifier.
"We did a qualifier to get back in the competitive spirit," said Evans. "There's a lot of self-motivation when you feel like you're not playing great as a team."
Tee times begin from the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at 7:30 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
Auburn will tee off from 7:48 - 8:24 a.m. CT, Friday, playing alongside Virginia and Arkansas. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
