AUBURN - Sophomore golfer Mariana Macias was named SEC Co-Golfer of the Week after winning the Lady Puerto Rico Classic last weekend, the conference office announced Thursday. Macias, who was in the Auburn lineup for only the second time in her career, carded a three-round total of 217 (70-70-77) to finish in a five-way tie for first. She also opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 70, her career-low score.
"It's good to see Maria receive some recognition for her hard work during the winter," Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. "I expect this to be the first of many accolades for a great golfer and truly dedicated athlete."
Macias led sixth-ranked Auburn to a five-stroke margin of victory over top-ranked Georgia. The Tigers have traveled to San Juan four times for the Classic and twice returned to The Plains with a win.
Auburn returns to the links on March 16-18 at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
