AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women’s golf team travels to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, this weekend for the three-day 12th Annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic, beginning on Sunday, February 16.
The 54-hole tournament hosted by Purdue will be played at the River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort. The par 72 course will play at 5,286 yards and play will begin Sunday at 8 a.m.
The field is comprised of six top-25 teams including seventh-ranked Alabama, eighth-ranked Arkansas and 15th-ranked North Carolina State. The Tigers will also compete against Augusta State, Georgia, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, Northwestern, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech and host Purdue.
Auburn sends five players to the event including sophomore Alex Harrell, who co-medaled at last weekend’s Lady Bulldog Individual Tournament in Athens, Ga. Senior Marta Sanz enters this weekend’s tournament seventh in school history with a stroke average of 74.61 and finished 22nd individually at last year’s tournament.
The Tigers also send sophomore Jamie Yun, senior Diana Fernandez and freshman Clara Baena. Auburn finished 11th overall last year at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
The tournament begins Sunday with a shotgun start, followed by an 8 a.m. start on Monday and 8:30 a.m. start time on Tuesday morning. Live scoring and pairings for the tournament will be available via GolfStat.com.
