No. 8 Women's Golf In 9th After Day 1 At Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 8 Auburn women's golf team finished its first day of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, in ninth with an 11-over 299. Junior Marta Sanz led the team on the day with a 1-over 73, tied for 19th. Hosted by the University of Texas, the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational is a 54-hole tournament played at the University of Texas Golf Club. The par 72 course is playing at 6,344 yards for the tournament. "We had a pretty steady round today," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "We are getting close, it is just a matter of time before we put together a complete round. We just have to keep our nose to the grindstone and keep working." Sanz led Auburn in the first round tied for 19th with a 1-over 73, while senior Carlie Yadloczky and sophomore Victoria Trapani carded 2-over 74s and are tied for 27th. "I thought Carlie played really well today and Victoria did a nice job of coming back," said Evans. "Victoria was 5-over through the first eight holes, but picked up five birdies out of the final 10 holes to get back on track. I also thought Marta Sanz played a good, steady round and did a good job of leading us today." Junior Diana Fernandez and Sophomore Nicole Quinn finished the day tied for 59th with 6-over 78s. Freshman Jamie Yun, competing as an individual, finished tied for 77th with a 12-over 84. Alabama leads the tournament, carding a 4-under 284 for the first round. Arkansas is in second place with a 1-under 287, and Arizona State follows in third with a 2-over 290. Florida is in fourth with a 5-over 293, and Denver is in fifth after carding a 6-over 294 for the first round. Individually, Tulsa's Shu-Yin Liu holds the lead at 4-under 68. A three-way tie for second is held among Alabama's Jennifer Kirby and Stephanie Meadows and UCLA's Erynne Lee with 3-under 69s. Kent State's Erin Hawe and Florida's Camilla Hedberg carded 1-under 71s and are tied for fifth. Play will continue on Monday beginning at 8:15 a.m. CT, with a split-tee start. Auburn will lead the off No. 1, going from 8:15 - 8:51 a.m. CT, playing alongside Tulsa and UNLV. Live stats can be found at www.golfstat.com.
