WILMINGTON, N.C. - The No. 3/5 Auburn women's golf team carded a 9-over 297 in the first round of the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., taking a seven-stroke lead after the first 18 holes. Four Tigers finished the day in the top 15 with two in the top five.

Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the Landfall Tradition is a 54-hole stroke play tournament being played at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The par-72 course will play at 6,208 yards for the tournament. Six of the 18 teams in the tournament field are ranked in the top 25.

The Tigers finished the day with four players in the top-15, with freshman Victoria Trapani leading the way in second with an even-par 72. Junior Carlie Yadloczky carded a 1-over 73 to tie for third after carding birdies her last three holes.

"Victoria and Carlie both had really great rounds today," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "Carlie was able to finish strong on those last couple holes and really give us a boost. It was a great way to finish the round."

Senior Patricia Sanz and freshman Nicole Quinn are tied for 13th with 4-over 76s. Sophomore Marta Sanz shot a 6-over 78 to tie for 32nd and round out the Auburn lineup.

"It was a tough day on the course because we had such awful weather conditions," said Evans. "I was really impressed with how the girls were able to handle it and come away with a nice round."

Auburn finished the day in the lead with a 9-over 297, seven strokes ahead of Purdue at 16-over 304. At 18-over 306, Notre Dame and North Carolina are tied for third while South Carolina is in fifth with a 19-over 307.

Individually, Purdue's Paula Reto is in the lead with 1-under 71, followed by Trapani in second with an even-par 72. Yadloczky, Tennessee-Chattanooga's Marion Duvernay and Michigan State's Caroline Powers are tied for third with 1-over 73.

Action will continue at 7:30 a.m. CT, Saturday with tee times off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Auburn will tee off from 9:10-9:50 a.m. CT off the No. 1 tee, playing alongside Purdue and North Carolina. Fans can follow along with live stats at www.GolfStat.com.
