Cydney Clanton Finishes Third At Mason Rudolph After Final-Round 67

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Auburn senior Cydney Clanton carded seven birdies Sunday during the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, finishing the day with a 5-under 67 to take third place in the 93-player field with an 8-under-par 208. As a team, sixth-ranked Auburn finished in 12th with a 12-over 876. Hosted by Vanderbilt, the Mason Rudolph Championship was a 54-hole tournament played at the par-72, 6,281-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course, the site of the 2012 NCAA Championship. The three-day tournament featured eight teams ranked in the GolfWorld top-10 and 16 ranked in the top-25. "Cydney had a great day and had a chance to win the tournament today," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "Haley Wilson had a solid tournament and we look for her to continue to make an impact. I am also happy with the progress of Marta Sanz, she played as an individual and came in even-par today in some tough conditions. "We will go back to the drawing board this week. We have a lot of work to cover over the next 10 days to get ready for the Tar Heel Invitational." Clanton, a native of Concord, N.C., carded four pars to start her round before firing off birdies on four of her next six holes. She would go on to drop a pair of bogeys before finishing off her day with birdies on her 17th and 18th holes to finish with a 5-under 67 - tying for the lowest round of the day. Clanton finished third overall with a tournament-total 72-69-67--208, just two strokes behind Wake Forest's Michelle Shin (206) and five strokes behind tournament champion Pia Halbig (203) of California. Five golfers finished a stroke behind Clanton to tie for fourth at 7-under-par 209. In all, there were34 players at even-par or better on the scoresheet.
Junior Haley Wilson finished behind Clanton with a 2-over 74, finishing in a tie for 26th at even-par with rounds of 72-70-74--216. Fellow junior Patricia Sanz finished in a tie for 54th at 7-over-par, carding 4-over final round to finish at 75-72-76--223. Freshman Diana Fernandez placed in a tie for 74th following her final-round 77. She finished the three-day tournament with rounds of 75-77-77--229, coming in at 13-over-par. Senior Karlin Beck rounded out the Auburn lineup, finishing in a tie for 80th with rounds of 78-77-78--233. Also competing was freshman Marta Sanz, carding an even-par 72 in the final round. She was able to move into a tie for 51st after finishing at 6-over-par with rounds of 74-76-72--222. In the team race, LSU took the title with a commanding 21-under-par performance, carding rounds of 278-282-283--843. Defending NCAA Champion Purdue finished second at 19-under 845 while Southern California and UCLA tied for third at 13-under 851. California rounded out the top five with a 10-under 854. Auburn notched a 6-over-par 294 in the final round, finishing 12th in the 17-team tournament with rounds of 294-288-294--876. The Tigers will take a week off from tournament competition before returning to the course Oct. 8-10 for the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
