No. 5 Women's Golf Takes Seventh At Liz Murphey Collegiate

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 5-ranked Auburn women's golf team carded its best round of the tournament, a 2-over 290, to move up one spot to tie for seventh at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic with a tournament-total 15-over 879. Sophomore Marta Sanz and junior Carlie Yadloczky led the Tigers with 2-over 218s, tied for 18th.
Hosted by the University of Georgia, the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic was a 54-hole stroke play tournament played at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. The par 72 course played at 6,335 yards for the tournament. The 18-team field featured five teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation.
"We played some really good golf out there today," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "It does not all show up in the score because we left a few shots out there, a three-putt here and there. But, we made some nice improvements today and now we have to get ready for SECs."
Junior Carlie Yadloczky had the top round for the Tigers, coming in with a 2-under 70 to tie for 18th with a 2-over 218 for the tournament. Yadloczky carded four birdies against just two bogeys in the final round to card her third sub-par round of the season.
Also going under par was freshman Victoria Trapani with a 1-under 71. She had four birdies on the day for her fourth sub-par round of the season. She finished the tournament tied for 23rd with a 5-over 221.
Finishing tied for 18th with Yadloczky was sophomore Marta Sanz. She posted a final-round 74 to finish at 2-over 218. It marked her sixth top-20 finish of the season.
Rounding out the Auburn lineup were seniors Patricia Sanz and Haley Wilson with 3-over 75s on Sunday. Wilson finished the tournament tied for 28th with a 6-over 222 while Sanz came in tied for 66th with a 15-over 231.
In the team race, Alabama took the title with a 10-under-par 854, followed by host Georgia in second with a 2-over 866. Florida finished just a stroke behind the Bulldogs, taking third with a 3-over 867 while Virginia took fourth with a 9-over 873. South Carolina made four SEC teams in the top five with an 11-over 875.
Individually, Alabama's Jennifer Kirby took medalist honors with a 7-under 209. Purdue's Laura Gonzalez finished runner-up with a 6-under 210, followed by Emily Tubert (Arkansas) and Marta Silva Zamora (Georgia) in a tie for third with 5-under 211s. South Carolina's Katie Burnett finished fifth with a 4-under 212.
"This was a good tournament for us and gave us a look at what we need to work on in the next few weeks heading into SECs," said Evans. "We have a lot of work to do in the next three weeks and we are ready to get back to Auburn and get to it."
The Liz Murphey Collegiate represented the last regular-season tournament for the Tigers. Auburn will return to action April 20-22 at the Southeastern Conference Tournament at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
