Marta Sanz Notches Top-20 Finish In New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- The No. 29 Auburn women's golf team finished the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in 18th after carding a final-round 27-over 315 to be 41-over 617 for the tournament. Junior Marta Sanz led the Tigers with a top-20 individual finish.
Hosted by Tulane, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate was originally a 54-hole tournament played at the English Turn Golf Club in New Orleans, La., but inclement weather changed the tournament to 36 holes. The par 72 course played at 6,105 yards for the tournament.
"Marta had a solid event," said head coach Kim Evans. "She is looking really comfortable on the course and we are excited about the rest of the season for her."
Marta Sanz carded a 3-over 75 in the final round to be at 3-over 147 for the tournament, tied for 20th. Diana Fernandez tied for 51st with a 7-over 79 in the last round, carding a 9-over 153 for the tournament.
Senior Carlie Yadloczky carded a 13-over 157 for the tournament after a 9-over 81 in the final round to tie for 74th. Freshman Jamie Yun tied for 85th with a 16-over 160 and an 8-over 80 in the final round while freshman Alex Harrell carded a final-round 9-over 81 to tie for 88th with a 17-over 161.
UCLA and Southern California tied for first place with 4-over 580s with the Trojans taking the tie-breaker for the win. Duke took third place with a 7-over 583 while host Tulane placed fourth with a 13-over 282 after being in the lead following Sunday's round. Purdue rounded out the top-five in fifth with a 15-over 591.
Individually, Baylor's Haley Davis placed first with a 4-under 140, and a three way tie for second was shared among UCLA's Lee Lopez, USC's Sophia Popov and Oklahoma State's Kelsey Vines with 2-under 142s. UCLA's Tiffany Lua, Tulane's Emily Pentilla and Texas's Desiree Dubreuil tied for fifth with 1-under 143s.
"We have a lot of growing to do for this season to kick in," said Evans. "We are putting in the work but forcing the results, and that's not the process we're looking for."
Auburn returns to play March 8-10 in Hilton Head, S.C., at the Darius Rucker Invitational hosted by South Carolina.
