AUBURN, Ala. -- The Auburn equestrian team added two western riders to its list of national letters of intent on Wednesday when it signed Elizabeth Cosper of Leland, N.C., and Alexa Rivard of Suwanee, Ga. Both riders excel in reining and are among the top-10 in NRHA competitions.
Cosper, a reiner, from Leland, N.C. trains with Peter DeFreitas. Cosper is the first and only back-to-back winner of the 14-18 USEF National Reining Youth Championship. She has placed consistently in the top 10 at NRHA events across the country to go with several championships, like the North American Affiliate Finals Reserve Champion and Regional Affiliate Champion in 2010. She was an NHRA World Champion Top 10 in 2009.
In addition to her success in the NRHA, Cosper has also placed at multiple AQHA circuit events from 2008-13. She was an All-American Quarter Horse Congress Top 10 in 2008 and 2009. Cosper also is a goalie on her high school’s field hockey team.
Rivard of Suwanee, Ga., finished the 2013 NRHA show season as the Youth 14–18 World Champion on one horse and ranked worldwide top 10 on the other. She also won NRHA’s 2013 Southeast Region Affiliate Championship, was the Dixie Reining Horse Association (DRHA) Year-End Division Champion three times and Year-End Reserve Champion three times. She has more than 30 first-place finishes in NRHA events and has more than 60 consecutive Youth 14 –18 rides in which she received scores that earned division points. She has also qualified for the NRHA National Championship five time.,
In addition to her equestrian activities, Rivard plays lacrosse and has been a starter for the Northview High School women’s varsity lacrosse team since her freshman year. In the spring of 2013, Alexa was elected team captain and she helped lead the team to the final four in the Division 5A State Championship.
