AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn equestrian team inked its first signee of the 2013-14 recruiting class in hunt seat rider Caitlin Creel of Kildeer, Ill., Wednesday.
Creel qualified and competed in the Maclay Regionals, Maclay Finals and United States Equestrian Federation Medal finals in 2013. It was her second qualification at those three events, where she competed previously in 2011. Creel placed second in M/S Junior Medal Finals 2011 and 2013, and second in Illinois Hunter Jumper Association Junior Medal Finals in 2012. She placed in equitation classes at Winter Equestrian Festival. In addition to excelling in the ring, she is a National Honor Society member.
“We have watched Caitlin for several years now, we are so excited that the time has finally come for her to sign with us,” said head coach Greg Williams. “Caitlin has a lot of talent and has been in some of the toughest competitions in the country and will continue to compete at the highest level throughout her senior year. She will be not only a tremendous rider but a strong and wonderful teammate as well.”
The signing dates for prospective student-athletes enrolling in 2014-15 began on Wed., Nov. 13 and will end on Nov. 20. It picks up again on April 16, 2014.
FRIDAY MATCHUP: The second-ranked Auburn equestrian team will be in action against conference foe and top-ranked Georgia, Friday, Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. at the AU Horse Center. The meet is All Auburn, All Orange and admission is free. There will be a kids’ zone with family-friendly activities like pony rides, mini-jump course and build-a-horse.
